Short answer: Spammers and hackers.

The service was EXTREMELY popular before we took it down the first time. But towards the end, we fell victim to so-called "spam-bots". These are computer programs that targeted our submission form and deluged our database daily with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of useless ads. Finally they managed to overload and corrupt the database to the point that we could no longer effectively obtain the legitimate ads from the software.

We finally got around to reinstalling a newer version of the database and added some security protocols to prevent excessive spam from being added. We even had a plan in place to "move" the submission forms in the event that they found us again.

Spammers didn't find us. Instead, within about two months, someone actually managed to hack into the web server and upload a malicious program which compromised the security of this site as well as our other sites. We quickly found and deactivated the program, and as far as we know none of our visitors fell victim to the software (only thanks to the fact that most any anti-virus program plus the built in security features of most web browsers could intercept the attack). However, it made it clear to us that the software we were using for the database was just too vulnerable, fragile, and quite honestly tedious to use to continue the service at that time.

When recent and frequent outages at our web host made it clear to us that it was time to find a new home for all of our web sites, we decided to diversify the sites to multiple web servers. This way an attack on one site could not be carried over to another. Additionally, that gave us the opportunity to move some of our services to newer, more secure software that will hopefully give us at least some protection from a recurrence of past events.

• This service is for farm, horse and some pet related items and services only.
• "Work at Home" "Casino" and other non-farm ads are deleted. Placing them wastes both of our time.
• Pet ads are limited to dogs, cats and other "farm type" critters. Pet ads may be limited to ONE PER DAY.

• Ads that contain links to commercial web sites (tack shops, trailer dealerships, other classified sites, etc.) will have the link removed unless the linked web site has a reciprocal link back to us or to kyhorse.com. This does not apply to farm or personal web sites unless those sites are obviously used for similar commercial purposes...of course in all fairness it would be awful nice if you linked back to us anyway.
• We inspect all ads before posting to insure the integrity of our service. We make every effort to update our classifieds daily.
